Easton Ellsworth, author of BusinessBlogWire with a tip on how to avoid getting burned out.
So little time. So many things to do.
Blogging takes time and means one more thing to do.
Wait - no, that's not right.
No, blogging actually means many things to do ...
- Brainstorming
- Writing
- Linking
- Tagging
- Publishing
- Promoting
- Networking
... to name just a few.
No wonder bloggers get overwhelmed.
No wonder we get "blogger burnout."
Blogger burnout may include:
- Feeling discouraged about the blog's growth
- Feeling bored about the blog's post topics
- Feeling out of touch with the blog's audience
- Feeling tired of working on the blog
- Feeling afraid of the difficulty of posting
- Feeling frustrated by a reader's comment
That's a lot of negative feelings.
So how can you stay motivated and avoid getting "blogger burnout?"
And how can you bounce back when you do get frazzled?
Here are some suggestions:
1. Relax. Take a break. Rest, laugh, kick back - get away from your computer for a bit. There's more to life than zeroes and ones.
2. Regroup. Gather your strength. You can do it. Don't listen to the voices that say you can't. You can. Be brave. It takes guts to blog day after day, and you've done a great job so far.
3. Reflect. Give it some thought. What's the root of the problem? What could you do to fix it? Which obstacles may also be opportunities?
4. Refresh. Forget past failures for a minute. Focus on your blog's future potential. No matter what's happened in the past, you can do a great job with your blog going forward.
5. Reorganize. Gather the pieces and put them together. Prioritize and plan. Tackle the problem that burned you out and prepare to resolve it.
6. Restart. Get to work. One step at a time. One post at a time. One hour at a time. Make it happen.
7. Relax. Yeah, it's step 1 too. But if all else fails, take it easy and don't panic. You can do this.
And finally ...
8. Remember. That you can always call for help. You have your blog readers. You have the whole Web available with many places to ask questions and get answers. And you have real people in real life around you who can encourage and instruct you.
I hope this post gives you some RE-inforcement when blogger burnout rears its yucky head.
