Yesterday Easton Ellsworth outline reasons comments are valuable. Today, Kimberlee Morrison offers a few suggestions on ways to compell people to comment on your blog posts.
Ask Questions. One great way to get people to contribute to the conversation is to ask a question. Pull people in with a question as the title of your article and state your opinion and then ask your readers what they think. One Know More Media author, Bill Belew ends every article by asking “What do you think” and while it may not work all the time, but I can assure you that it works some of the time.
Stir the pot. People love, love, love controversy. For those of you with very focused topics, it might be difficult to find controversial subject matter. But for the others with blogs about entertainment, politics and the rise of third world economies, controversy may be your best friend.
Poke another blogger. Well, not literally but with a trackback. If you see an article you found interesting, you can either comment, or do one better and write your own post about the matter. Trackbacks are lovely things since bloggers are often trying to figure out where their traffic is coming from. Even if the comment is a simple thanks for the link, you know your link was appreciated.
Sprinkle, sprinkle. Sprinkling comments around in various places could pique curiosity among other commenters and readers. Especially if your comment is particularly thoughtful. I’m learning that commenting is one of many ways to draw people to your blog, further assert your authority and to find others interested in similar topics.
